Project Overview
St Anne’s Homes is a long-established shelter providing care, protection, and empowerment to vulnerable women and their children. The organisation offers a safe and supportive environment for survivors of abuse, pregnant women, and destitute mothers, with a strong focus on healing, dignity, and long-term self-empowerment.
Recognising the importance of safe, functional, and dignified spaces for vulnerable mothers and children, the Isipani Foundation partnered with St Anne’s Homes to provide targeted infrastructural support aimed at refreshing the home’s appearance and creating a peaceful, uplifting environment for its residents.
Identified Need
St Anne’s Homes operates three dedicated homes, each serving a unique role in supporting women and children.
Balfour House is their main care facility and administrative hub, where women and their children begin their journey to reclaim their lives and dignity. For a period of up to four months, 21 mothers and their children receive accommodation, meals, daily essentials and support, under the watchful care and supervision of St Anne’s team of professional staff.
As a residential and care facility, Balfour House provides a safe and comfortable environment for its residents, but the team had identified the need to refresh the facility by repainting the external façade of the home and sealing its windows and doors. The stoep and boundary walls also required repainting.
Scope of Support
The support provided by the Isipani Foundation focused on external building maintenance and refurbishment work, including:
- Sealing of doors and windows
- Repainting of the external façade of the home
- Repainting of stoep and boundary walls
These efforts contributed to creating more nurturing and uplifting outdoor spaces for residents and staff.
Impact
The refurbishment and maintenance work improved the quality and functionality of key outdoor spaces at St Anne’s Homes Balfour, providing a more welcoming and uplifting environment for both residents and staff.
The project directly benefited:
- Women and children residing at the shelter
- Staff delivering care, counselling, and empowerment programmes
- Early childhood development and communal environments
By investing in infrastructure, the project supports St Anne’s Homes’ broader mission of providing stability, dignity, and a foundation for healing and personal growth.
On behalf of the Board, management and staff of St Anne’s Homes, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude for the incredible work you have done in restoring and painting the exterior walls of our home for women and children who are survivors of Gender-Based Violence.
The transformation has brought more than just a fresh coat of paint, it has brought renewed hope, dignity, and warmth to the space. There is something profoundly comforting about arriving at a place that looks cared for, welcoming, and full of life. For the women and children who walk through our doors carrying the weight of trauma and uncertainty, the refreshed environment creates an immediate sense of calmness, safety, and belonging.
You have helped turn the shelter into more than just a place of refuge; you have helped create a space where healing can begin. The brightened walls and renewed exterior remind every person who enters that they are worthy of care, beauty, and a new beginning.
Thank you for your partnership, your kindness, and for taking us by the hand in this important journey. Your support offers not only a second chance, but a true lifeline to vulnerable women and children as they rebuild their lives with courage and hope.
Your generosity and compassion will leave a lasting impact on every life touched within these walls.
