Isipani Construction built Pioneer’s head office in Market Street, Paarl in the 1980s. In 2011 we were contracted to build a new parking garage, adjacent to the company’s offices. The two-storey structure was designed to accommodate 300 vehicles on the ground, first and second floors. The project consisted mainly of formwork and concrete, so one of the major challenges was to achieve the correct off-shutter concrete finish to meet the client’s expectations. The design also required that all concrete connections between pours had to be hidden. The final phase of the build was to link the new parking garage to Pioneer’s existing office building using mostly face-brick and other finishes to blend the transition from new to old.
