Summary:

• Construction of new perimeter fence

The Pebbles Hemel-en-Aarde Education Project (HEAEP) was established in 2017. The project ensures that children and young adults from farming communities in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, near Hermanus, in the Western Cape, have access to quality education, health, and nutrition services.

Located on a non-working farm, the project’s centre houses First Thousand Days (FTD) and Early Childhood Development (ECD) classrooms, catering for children ages 3 months – 5 years, as well as the Pebbles Academy (opened in 2019), that provides quality education to children from Grade R to Grade 7. In 2023, HEAEP opened a Youth Development Centre, providing unemployed young adults with the opportunity to learn new skills, enrol for tertiary education, and be exposed to a variety of career choices and grow their self-confidence preparing them for the world of work.

The Pebbles Project plays an important role in the Hemel-en-Aarde farming community, giving parents peace of mind that while they are at work, their children are safe, being cared for and educated by the HEAEP team. The team reached out to the Isipani Foundation as their perimter fence around the children’s play area had fallen into disrepair, making it challenging for the care givers to ensure the safety of those in their care. 

The Isipani Foundation supported the Pebbles Project through infrastructure related improvements at its Hemel en Aarde facility.

A new perimeter fence was installed around the children’s play area, enhancing the safely and usability of the space. This upgrade ensures a secure environment where children can learn and play with greater freedom and protection, and makes the lives of their caregivers and teachers easier on a daily basis.

The installation of the new fencing has significantly improved safety within the play area, providing peace of mind to caregivers and staff.
By strengthening the physical environment, the project supports the Pebbles Project’s ability to continue delivering meaningful, child-focused programmes in a safe and structured setting.
