In 2017 Isipani won the tender to build a new office block for Ackermans in Kuils River. The three-storey office block provides 10,600 m² of office space with semi-basement parking and serves as Ackermans’ new head office. The office block has a strong industrial look with exterior finishes of mostly face-brick and black aluminium windows. The building’s interior surfaces were given a rough finish with some of the walls left unplastered. A second phase of the project included the refurbishment and extension of the adjacent Consolite building to create additional office space and parking. One of the project’s most challenging features — constructing the building’s dramatic spiral staircase — provided a memorable challenge. The staircase required a specially designed concrete mix that could be exposed by concrete grinding. The soffit of the spiral staircase was also designed to mirror the top of the staircase.
