78 on Edward is an office development in Edward Street near the Tyger Valley Shopping Centre in Durbanville. The project included the redevelopment of an existing building and a new extension to the existing building. The existing building consisted of three floors of office space and one floor for parking. The roof of the building was redeveloped to create more parking space and an entertainment area. The new build included retail space on the ground floor and a split-level parking area of six floors, with A-grade office space on the seventh floor.

The team on site faced many challenges. The Buckley Pub had to be demolished before work could start on the new build. The site was also very congested and situated on a busy intersection. Moreover, the new building took up the entire footprint of the property. Ground conditions were also challenging and a large water storage tank also had to be constructed. The construction of the split-level parking area also slowed down the speed at which the project could be completed. Staff on site worked extended hours and days to ensure that the client’s tenant was able to take occupation by mid-December.
